Color drenching: one color, whole room
Painting walls, ceiling and trim in a single color is the most durable trend of the decade. It works — under specific conditions.
When it works
Rooms with good natural light and simple geometry. Deep tones like olive, terracotta or ink blue create intimacy; the single color removes visual noise and makes small rooms read as one calm volume instead of fragmented surfaces.
When it fails
North-facing rooms with little daylight, or spaces with complicated architecture — corners, beams, pipes. Monochrome highlights every flaw instead of hiding it. Test with two coats on the largest wall and live with it a week.
Frequently asked questions
Does it work in rentals?
Yes — one accent room drenched in a warm neutral reads as intentional, not temporary.
